@sur_27The blaze that nearly destroyed everything Nikola Tesla owned represented far more than just a setback for one individual. It represented a setback for humanity at large. On March 13, 1895, the inventor's laboratory located in New York was engulfed in flames. He had gone out earlier during that same day. Upon coming back he discovered that all the effort from previous years had turned into charred remains. He had planned to show off his device for receiving signals over long distances without wires just a few days after the incident. Yet this setback did not deter his progress since within six hours he resumed his efforts and began rebuilding the experiments that were lost. The moment proved especially unfortunate. During the beginning of the 1890s Tesla reached the peak of his achievements. By then he had already succeeded in the battle over electrical systems thanks to his alternating current approach. He was also exploring currents at high frequencies along with sending power without wires and other effects that eventually contributed to the development of radio technology as well as X-ray imaging. Almost everything he had specially made including his equipment, prototypes, instruments, written records, images, and items for showing his ideas, many of which appeared at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition, was gone. The estimated cost of the destroyed items reached around fifty thousand dollars, which would equal approximately one point six to one point eight million dollars in present times, and there was no protection from any policy. This incident changed the direction of his professional path because prior to it he had been achieving remarkable success but afterward he encountered greater monetary difficulties along with fewer inventions that reached the market even though his creative work persisted. The absence of specialized tools combined with the interruption postponed his goals for transmitting electricity wirelessly by a significant amount.

The image depicts a black-and-white illustration of a large building on fire. People are standing outside, and some are on ladders leading up to the building. Smoke and flames are billowing out of the windows and roof. The scene appears to be a historic event, with a caption at the bottom reading "THE SOUTH FIFTH AVENUE FIRE". The illustration style is detailed and dramatic.
