@aoi_anime_op30That lab scene with Professor Oak watching over set the whole Pokémon journey in motion. Pikachu's electric shock while Ash freaked out is a moment US audiences first caught 28 years ago, and it still stands as a defining first meeting. The series built from that single episode into a 30-year franchise for real.

The image is a two-panel animation still from the anime Pokémon. The top panel shows a young boy, Ash Ketchum, and a yellow creature, Pikachu, looking at each other in a laboratory setting with Professor Oak in the background. The bottom panel shows Ash screaming in shock as Pikachu is engulfed in a bright yellow electrical discharge, with Professor Oak still visible behind him. The style is classic anime. The most notable visual is Ash's exaggerated expression of terror in the bottom panel.
