Ada Lovelace is widely regarded as the world’s first computer programmer, thanks to her work on Charles Babbage’s Analytical Engine, an early mechanical general-purpose computer. In 1842, she translated an article on the engine and added her own extensive notes, which included what is now considered the first algorithm intended for machine processing.
