Mick Foley on Darby Allin's hybrid style

Mick Foley admits he was initially unaware that Darby Allin viewed him as a major influence on his career. When Mick saw Darby mention this publicly, he confronted him with surprise, saying he never knew. Darby’s response was blunt: "How could you not know?" This confusion stemmed from their early days in AEW. Mick recalls that on his first night there, Darby was the quiet kid who did not speak up much. He did not immediately register as a standout talent to the veteran. The shift in perspective came only after Jon Moxley stepped in. Moxley told Mick, "You have to see this kid. He can do anything." That endorsement changed how Mick viewed him. He began to see Darby as a younger fan who made it cool to not fit in and someone willing to take risks. Mick sees Darby as a performer who took inspiration from Cactus Jack and added a significant amount of athleticism to it. He acknowledges that Darby did things Mick could have never done himself. This evolution resulted in a unique hybrid style. It borrows slightly from Mick but also draws from wrestlers who were far more athletic. Mick notes that Darby has made this blend entirely his own. He compares it to his own method of crafting a persona by taking one part Bruiser Brody and one part Tommy Billington to create something unique. Just as Mick made that combination work for him, Darby created a hybrid style that suits his abilities. This approach has established him as one of the biggest stars of this new generation.
