Tanker struck near Khasab Oman

A commercial vessel moving inbound through the Strait of Hormuz was hit by an unknown projectile north of Khasab, Oman, per a report from the UKMTO. This specific incident occurred where the Musandam Peninsula juts into the mouth of the Persian Gulf and the waterway narrows to just 21 miles (33 km) across. Khasab is the capital of that isolated peninsula. Even though U.S. forces heavily patrol the inbound lane in this narrow section, those patrols cannot guarantee protection against all attacks on ships transiting the area.
