Melissa Barrera on Macklemore and Palestine

Melissa Barrera is reflecting on the difference in public solidarity, noting how seeing Finneas, the band, and opening acts pull out for Macklemore was genuinely emotional. She points out that she didn't get that same wave of support when she stood up for Palestine back then. Her explanation? It was too soon, and people were just too scared to step forward. But she's happy to see that almost three years later, at least things seem to have shifted a bit. Barrera also speculates about Ed Sheeran calling the bluff on demands instead of complying. Even if his shows got cancelled initially, she bets he could have rebooked them elsewhere easily while people rallied behind him. The core takeaway from her is a wish for those with power to actually understand the weight of their own influence.
