Olivia Newton-John Take Me Home, Country Roads

That feeling of homesickness for a place you've never actually been is the weird magic of Take Me Home, Country Roads. It sounds like it was carved from deep memories of West Virginia but the writers didn't grow up in those mountains at all. Still millions of people feel that pull toward a home they might not have visited yet. When Olivia Newton-John sings it though the whole thing gets softer and more personal somehow. You don't need to know where the Blue Ridge Mountains are or what the Shenandoah River looks like to get the emotion. All you really need is the feeling of missing home to connect with it. Your own country road could be any street or town or house or person that means something to you. That's why the song keeps its closeness over time instead of fading away. It isn't just about the state of West Virginia anymore. It's become a universal internal path back to wherever home feels like.
