Astrid Nohemi Lopez Ramos Riverside case

Sixteen months after a newborn infant was discovered in the rain next to a dumpster inside an apartment enclosure on Jackson Street in Riverside, police have moved forward with charges. The infant, found by a resident following cries and appearing only hours old with the umbilical cord still attached, survived exposure to the elements. Authorities arrested Astrid Nohemi Lopez Ramos for child endangerment during the investigation. She is listed at the Larry D. Smith facility in Banning, awaiting a court date scheduled for January 12 at the Riverside Hall of Justice. While California maintains safe surrender locations at hospitals and fire stations that allow parents to leave a baby within 72 hours without identification, records indicate the mother chose the enclosure instead. There is no conviction yet, but the legal process has begun over an event where the child endured cold and wet conditions before being found.
