Matt Bomer in The Boys in the Band

Still thinking about Matt Bomer as Donald in The Boys in the Band, and whether that performance hit for you the way it hit for me 🍿 The setup sounds simple enough: a birthday brings a circle of gay men under one roof, and the celebration curdles. Wounds that were never fully closed open back up, secrets stop staying secret, and the room tips into raw feeling. What holds it together is the writing snapping sharp, the performances going hard, and a cast with no weak link. The 2020 Netflix film wears its LGBTQ+ heart openly, digging into friendship, into identity, into the ache people tuck away, and into how messy it is to actually be seen and taken as you are. Hiding only works so long 👀
