Firebird 2021 queer romance

What stays with me is the cost of it: choosing between your heart and staying safe, and how quietly that choice eats at you. Firebird is a 2021 film tied to Estonia, and it drops Sergey, a young soldier, into the Soviet Air Force during the Cold War, where he falls into an intense forbidden thing with Roman, a charismatic fighter pilot. Exposing homosexuality in that world is dangerous, so what builds between them runs on passion and longing and jealousy and decisions that hurt, and every moment they get carries risk because military discipline and the threat of discovery sit right there between them. Tom Prior and Oleg Zagorodnii are the reason it lands for me, the depth and the chemistry are just captivating 🍿 What the film is really about is the courage to love, the pain of hiding who you are, and the price of picking between your heart and your safety. A beautiful, bittersweet queer romance that deserves way more attention than it got #Estonia
