Robert Lewandowski on his father and Warsaw

The part Robert Lewandowski keeps coming back to isn't the trophy case. It's a kid in Warsaw looking at him and thinking "If Lewandowski did it, I can too." That hits harder once you hear where he started. Growing up in Poland, he heard plenty of people say he was too thin, that he didn't have a striker's body. An injury once had him close to leaving football behind for good. His father's refrain stuck with him: "Never give up, find your own path." His father passed very early, and Lewandowski says that pain left a mark. Every goal is also for him. Dortmund is where he found out what growing against giants means, and Bayern is where discipline and work proved dreams are reachable. Putting five past a team inside nine minutes? Crazy, by his own admission. But the records aren't what fulfills him. It's that boy in Warsaw believing.
