Retroactive reinstatement plus taxpayer-funded backpay, that's the remedy U.S. District Judge Jesse Furman handed down after finding the Trump DOJ "unlawfully" fired Maurene Comey. His ruling throws out the administration's Article II authority to remove her. The woman at the center of it is a former SDNY prosecutor and the daughter of James Comey, and before the DOJ cut her loose in July 2025 she was working the Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell prosecutions in Manhattan. She sued the Trump administration arguing she couldn't be removed at will. So now unelected activist judges are claiming the chief executive has no constitutional power to fire federal prosecutors working under him. TOTAL BS! TAKE IT TO SCOTUS IF NEEDED.
