the claim that right wingers voted for Lula keeps getting repeated like it's settled, and it isn't. start with who simply didn't show up: 33 million absent in round one, 30 million in round two. for the narrative to hold, every non-Bolsonaro right winger would have had to skip voting while Lula's people turned out in force. theoretically on the table, practically not believable. nothing fixed confirms right wingers broke for Lula. what exists is a group of more than 30 million who either stayed home or cast a ballot, and plenty of them probably backed a right wing candidate who was out of the race by the runoff. with 33 million abstaining, you can't trace who voted for whom. that's the whole point. and fraud may have happened too, in which case the question becomes how those abstaining votes got mobilized. #LuizInacioLulaDaSilva
