Ben Affleck on selling AI company to Netflix

The visual effects guy told Ben Affleck to check out what Google and OpenAI were doing, and that nudge apparently led somewhere big: his AI company went to Netflix for $500,000,000. Computers had his attention since he was young, and when film shifted from digital, the visual effects workflow pulled him in deeper, with years of machine learning and Python scripts along the way. A tensor, as he puts it, is a numerical translation of a visual image into numbers, simple as that, while feature extraction means spotting patterns like where a window edge sits so a green screen image can be pulled out cleanly. He also had a small visual effects company running on GPU, and he remembers thinking they should do all the movies right then before the tech ran out. #BenAffleck
