Bungo Stray Dogs

Kafka Asagiri and Sango Harukawa created Bungo Stray Dogs, a manga that blends literary homage with supernatural action. Serialized in Kadokawa Shoten's Young Ace since December 2012, the series reimagines famous authors like Fyodor Dostoevsky and Edgar Allan Poe as characters with powers tied to their own works. The story centers on Atsushi Nakajima, a young man who can transform into a tiger, after he joins the Armed Detective Agency. This group of gifted individuals tackles mysteries, fights rival organizations like the Port Mafia, and protects the city of Yokohama from supernatural threats. The manga has inspired ten light novels as of 2025, expanding the lore of its literary universe.

Bones brought the series to life with an anime adaptation that first aired in April 2016, split across two seasons. A film, Bungo Stray Dogs: Dead Apple, followed in 2018, and three more anime seasons have since been released, with the fifth concluding in September 2023. A spin-off, Bungo Stray Dogs Wan!, offers a lighter take and aired its first season in 2021; a second season is due in July 2026. A live-action film, Bungo Stray Dogs The Movie: Beast, debuted in Japan in January 2022, proving the franchise's appeal across media.

With its clever blend of real-world literary references and shonen action, Bungo Stray Dogs has carved out a unique niche. The series balances intense battles with character-driven drama, all while nodding to classic literature. It continues to attract fans who enjoy seeing their favorite authors reimagined as flawed, powerful heroes and villains. [bearbeiten]
