May 1974 marked the debut of Hana to Yume, a semi-monthly magazine that became the backbone of Hakusensha just five months after the publisher opened its doors. Originally released on a monthly schedule, the publication shifted to a bi-monthly rhythm in January 1975, with new issues hitting newsstands on the 5th and 20th of every month. The magazine stands out for its B5 format and its tradition of including furoku, or bonus items like drama CDs, pencil boards, stationery, and calendars alongside the manga content.

Readers found a diverse mix within these pages, ranging from romance and fantasy to science fiction and slice-of-life drama. The editorial team prioritized strong female leads and complex emotional arcs, often blending romantic plots with supernatural elements. A 2006 Oricon survey placed the magazine as the fourth favorite anthology among Japanese girls, highlighting its deep connection to its core demographic.

The magazine celebrated its 50th anniversary in May 2024 with an exhibition called "Party" at Tokyo City View in Roppongi Hills Mori Tower. Visitors saw a massive celebratory cake, a recreation of artist Mizuho Kusanagi's workspace, and displays showing how covers are made. Hakusensha continued this momentum by launching the digital platform Hana to Yume+ in April 2026, ensuring the stories reach modern audiences through new channels while maintaining the iconic red, white, and blue stripe design on collected volumes.
