Is It Over Now?

Taylor Swift released "Is It Over Now?" on October 27, 2023, as a previously unreleased track from the vault of her re-recorded album 1989 (Taylor's Version). The song was originally penned during the sessions for the 2014 pop record but never made the final cut until nearly a decade later. Co-written with Jack Antonoff, the track functions as a synth-pop power ballad defined by its heavy use of reverb and layered synthesizers that evoke the specific sonic landscape of the mid-2010s.

Lyrically the piece dissects the gray area between a relationship ending and the lingering attachment that follows. Swift employs sharp rhetorical questions to challenge the listener about the exact moment trust broke down. Critics noted the song's raw emotional weight and its ability to stand alongside other hits from the era while offering a more direct confrontation of betrayal.

The single achieved immediate commercial success upon dropping, debuting at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100. This chart performance highlighted the intense engagement of Swift's fanbase with the re-recording project. The track has since earned Platinum certifications in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada. [bearbeiten]
