Laid-Back Camp

Rin Shima sits alone on her moped near Lake Yamanaka, watching the sun dip behind Mount Fuji while she boils water for tea. This quiet moment defines Afro's manga series Laid-Back Camp, which prioritizes the meditative rhythm of outdoor life over high-stakes drama. The story introduces Rin as a solitary camper who finds peace in setting up her tent and cooking simple meals by herself until an energetic transfer student named Nadeshiko Kagamihara stumbles into her world.

Nadeshiko mistakes a snow-capped mountain for Mount Fuji and ends up freezing on a hillside, sparking a friendship that pulls her into the hobby. Together with classmates Chiaki Ōnishi, Aoi Inuyama, and Ena Saitō, the group explores campsites across Yamanashi Prefecture, tackling challenges like sudden rainstorms or figuring out how to cook curry without burning it. The narrative focuses on the technical details of camping gear and the joy of mastering new skills rather than interpersonal conflict.

Originally serialized in Houbunsha's Manga Time Kirara Forward starting in July 2015, the series moved to the Comic Fuz platform in 2019 and continues there today. Yen Press has released the English translation in North America, collecting the story into eighteen volumes as of 2025. While the franchise has spawned multiple anime seasons, a film, and live-action dramas, the manga remains the core source material that captures the healing atmosphere fans love. [bearbeiten]
