Love Me Harder

Ariana Grande and The Weeknd locked horns in a synth-driven collision that landed on radio waves on September 30, 2014. This duet served as the fourth single from Grande's second studio album, My Everything, and arrived just as both artists were navigating major career pivots. The track emerged from sessions held in May 2014 across studios in Los Angeles, Stockholm, and Las Vegas, where the production team crafted a sound that felt both retro and futuristic.

The song builds around a pulsating beat and a distinctive guitar riff that cuts through layers of retro synthesizers. Lyrically, the pair explore themes of intense desire and intimacy using double entendres that signaled a shift toward a more mature persona for Grande. While the writing credits include heavy hitters like Max Martin and Savan Kotecha, the production duties fell primarily to Ali Payami and Peter Carlsson, who shaped the track's unique synthwave texture.

Critics noted the chemistry between the two vocalists immediately, with Rolling Stone calling it a "coy, synth-driven jam about the joys of rough sex." The commercial response matched the critical praise, as the single peaked at number 7 on the US Billboard Hot 100. This performance helped bridge The Weeknd into the mainstream pop sphere while cementing Grande's status as a pop powerhouse during the My Everything era. [bearbeiten]
