Rock with You

Released on November 3, 1979, Rock with You marked a pivotal moment in Michael Jackson's career as the second single from his album Off the Wall. Rod Temperton wrote the track specifically for Karen Carpenter after she turned down the chance to record it for her solo debut. Quincy Jones produced the song, crafting a lush soundscape that blended disco rhythms with smooth pop sensibilities.

The single climbed the charts with remarkable speed, reaching number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 where it stayed for four weeks between January and February 1980. It also topped the Billboard R&B chart for five weeks and secured the top spot in Australia, Canada, and New Zealand. Billboard later named it the fourth biggest single of 1980, cementing its status as a definitive hit of the era. [bearbeiten]
